Glen Leonard Matthews

September 29, 1927 — March 10, 2017

Glen Leonard Matthews, 89, of Lowell, OH died Friday March 10, 2017 at his home on Bear Creek. He was born September 29, 1927 to Otto & Lillie Mendenhall Matthews in Marietta, OH.

He went to Marietta School until he quit to work and help support his mother and 3 brothers. Glen worked as foreman at Rich-Loaf Bakery for 32 years, before being employed at RJF/Goodrich as a security guard for 10 years. He retired from Goodrich in 1990. He was a long time member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Marietta.

Glen found the love of his life in 1945. He married Jeanette Ruth Leonhart on April 6, 1947. They moved to their beloved farm on Bear Creek in 1957 with their two children Larry and Sherrie. He loved to work on his farm and woodworking. He was a craftsman in every sense of the word and was the type of man who worked hard so his family didn't have to. Glen treated everyone with love, respect and kindness. He was a man of little words, yet he spoke volumes. The lessons he taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were to always love with all of your heart and to give unto others. He was a true man of God and lived his life as such.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette Matthews; his son Larry (Connie) Matthews; his daughter Sherrie (Tim) Rossiter; 6 grandchildren: Bobby (Heather) Enochs, Adam (Hilary) Enochs, Troy (Kala) Fogle, Christal (Larry) Wallace, Seth (Miranda) Matthews, and Trent (Alicia) Fogle; 17 great-grandchildren: Sarah and Abby Enochs, Trevor and Devon Niceswanger; Alexis, Audrey, and Kori Enochs; Eithyn and Kelton Fogle, Cole and Kali Shilling; Jazmine, Zane, Jayden Greenleaf and Ashton Wallace; Gage Matthews; Aiden Fogle. Two brothers Gerald and Gene (Francis) Matthews, numerous nieces and nephews, and his loving friends and family of Bear Creek. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gale Matthews.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday March 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Weber officiating. Calling hours will be Monday March 13, 2017 from 3-8 pm. The family suggests donations to be sent to Faith United Methodist Church, 503 7th St., Marietta, OH 45750.
