Harley Dean Hughes, 77, of Third St., Lowell, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 in Marietta. He was born December 5, 1931 in Coal Run to Harley Conrad and Gailie Grimes Hughes. He was a 1949 graduate of Lowell High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Lowell United Methodist Church and the Lowell American Legion Post #750. Harley ran Sheppard's Drive-in from 1960 to 1970, then he owned Hughes Furniture from 1970 to 1989. He was a loving husband and father and was a friend to all. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Ann Sheppard Hughes, they were married on June 30, 1951; his son, Dan Hughes (Mary) of San Antonio, TX and daughter, Deana Dye (Doug) of Beverly; four grandchildren, Sara and Bryce Hughes and Kayla and Brandon Dye; a brother, Virgil Hughes (Ruth) of Reno and three sisters, Juanita Wetz (Richard) of Huber Heights, Treva Long (Tom) of Lowell and Vivian Sells (Terry) of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack, and a sister, Lela Remleigh. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at the Lowell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Deborah Malec and the Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, with full military honors. Friends may call at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Lowell United Methodist Church, P.O.
