Harley Ray Pitt, 88, of Lowell, was reunited with his beloved Joanna on Monday, April 21, 2014. He was born February 6, 1926 in Lowell to James Luther and Katherine "Kate" Haines Pitt. Ray was a 1943 graduate of Lowell High School. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, seeing action in the Mediterranean area and participating in the invasion of Southern France. In honor of his military service, he was a charter member and past commander of Lowell American Legion Post #750. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in 1986. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Gary Pitt, Carol Wolfe (Rick), Karen Crawford (Herb), Becky Smith (Greg), Cindy Rae Snyder, and Angela Rae Bennett (Brian), five sisters in law, Mary Pitt, Alma Ginther (Ed), Helen Jurden, Mary McCreery and Jean McCreery. Preceding him in death on August 26, 2006, was his wife, Joanna, they had been married on June 29, 1946. Also preceded in death by two brothers, Hurd and Charles, sister, Maxine Davis Chandler and two nephews, Jim and David Stengel. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at noon on Friday, April 25, 2014 , at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell, with the Rev. Timothy Shannon as celebrant. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with a Vigil Service at 4:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
