Herbert Iden Rettig

Herbert Iden Rettig, 90, of Marietta, formerly of Perrysburg, OH, died on Friday, September 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1920 in Holgate, OH to Iden and Hildegard Badenhop Rettig. Herb was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the Army 355th Corp of Engineers, from 1942-1945. He married Mary Louise Berry Rettig on October 8, 1946 in St. Anthony, MI. He was a CPA, with a private practice in Perrysburg, retiring in 1994. Herb was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Marietta and a former member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg. He was also a member of the Ohio Society of CPA's, and was active in the 355th Corp of Engineers veterans group. He is survived by his wife; three children, Rebecca (Neal) Alvanos, of Jupiter, FL, John(Joska) Rettig of Portland, OR, Laurie (Chris) Weibel of Guysville, OH; six grandchildren, Bethany (Chad) Wright, Orlando, FL, Sara Weibel, of Youngstown, Viktoria Dijakovic, of Hanoi, Vietnam, Kimberly Alvanos, of Orlando, Ben Weibel, of Athens, OH, and Esther Weibel, of Guysville, OH; one great-grandson, Cade Wright of Orlando; two brothers, James (Sandra) Rettig of Holgate, OH, and Kendall Rettig of Napoleon, OH; three sisters, Rutheda (Marvin) Smith of Holgate, Rosalyn Mullet of Holgate, and Linda (James) Grossman of Fort Wayne, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Marietta, with The Rev. Steven M. Mahaffey officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at the Church. Donations may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, in Herb's memory. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is handling Herb's arrangements.
