Howard Virgil Boyd

Howard Virgil Boyd, 98, of Marietta, passed away on September 7, 2016. He was born April 2, 1918 at South Olive, Ohio to John and Bertha King Boyd. Howard graduated from Huntington High School, Huntington, WV in 1936. He worked for the U.S. Corp of Engineers at the Cambridge Engineer Depot in Cambridge for six years and then was employed by the Union Carbide Corporation in Dexter City. He then transferred to the Marietta plant and completed 32 years of service. Howard was a member of the Norwood United Methodist Church and had served on various committees. Besides family and friends, Howard enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and reading. He is survived by his son, David (Dana) Boyd, of Waverly, Ohio and daughter, Melanie (William) Yarnell, of Marietta; four grandchildren, Mark (Cynthia) of London, OH, Ellen Walsh of Waverly, OH, Brian (Jill) Yarnell of Marietta and Amy (Nicholas) Keiser of Williamstown, WV. Great grandchildren are Ashleigh, Kali and Taylor Boyd, Samuel Walsh, Ashley, Andrew, Adam and Austin Yarnell, Sarah Williamson and Joshua, Abigail and Tyler Keiser. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Clark Boyd, on July 3, 2000, after 59 years of marriage, his parents, a brother, Roland Boyd, and a sister, Mary McKee. Services will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Caldwell, OH. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norwood United Methodist Church, 23 Colegate Drive, Marietta, OH 45750.
