Howard Eugene Dunn, 76, 212 Third Street, Lowell, died Saturday morning, March 3, 2012, at his home. Born May 13, 1935, in Zanesville, OH, he was the son of the late William L. And Myrtle Schau Dunn. Howard was a 1954 graduate of Lowell High School, where he had been a basketball stand-out. He also enjoyed playing softball as a young man, and in the Old Timers League. He was an avid golfer and had served as a volunteer ranger at Arrowhead Golf Course. Howard was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where he had served as a religion teacher, a Eucharistic Minister, a choir member and had been on the parish council. He also had been a Past Grand Knight of the Beverly Knights of Columbus. Howard retired in 1995 as testing lab technician and supervisor with the Ohio Department of Transportation, following 41 years of employment. Howard is survived by his wife, Emma K. Engle Dunn, whom he married September 4, 1954, and by two daughters, Christy Owings (Timothy) and Carla Nichols (Craig), both of Marietta, and two grandsons, Christopher Becker (Tiffany) and Ben Holschuh, both of Marietta, and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Rose Becker, of Marietta. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joy Lent and brother, Bill Dunn. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Huffman as celebrant. The family will greet friends and family at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell, from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Rosary being recited at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Homes. It is suggested that memorials may be directed to the church, in memory of Howard.
