Howard Irwin Snyder, 86, of Marietta, Ohio died at his home on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born March 30, 1927 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to Robert and Margaret Snyder.
He had attended schools in Martins Ferry and was a U.S Navy veteran of World War II and a Marine Corps veteran of Korea. Howard was a retiree of Sherwin Williams Company in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a 50 year member of the Masons (Lodge 169) and the Shriners, both in Parkersburg, WV. While able, he enjoyed playing golf.
Howard is survived by two daughters, Martha McCale (fianc Andrew Statler) of Williamstown, WV and Connie Klapkowski (Stanley) of Claysville, PA, four grandchildren, Kurt (Margaret Murphy) Klapkowski, Kristin Klapkowski Fiori, Mauren McCale (Woody Mace) Dowler, and Mitchell (Shannon) McCale. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Myles, Julianna, Nora, Katie, Will, Maggie, Cayden, and Zachary.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Mae Johnson Snyder, his parents, and a brother, Robert Snyder.
Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday. Private graveside services, with military honors, will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Rico Vespa officiating.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marietta, Marietta, Ohio in recognition of the excellent care that they provided to Mr. Snyder.
