Iwana Simon

December 14, 1921 — February 18, 2012

Iwana Mills Simon, 90, formerly of Orchard St., Marietta, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at The Pines at Marietta. She was born December 14, 1921 in Munday, WV to James Howard and Ella Stewart Mills. Iwana had received her Masters Degree from Ohio University. She worked in area schools as a teacher, principal and school psychologist, retiring in 1986 from Washington County Schools. She was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta. Member and past president of the following, Washington County 648 Board, Washington County Easter Seals Society, Woman's Home Board, Ray R. Clark Center for Children, Betsey Mills Girls Council, Washington County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Southeast Ohio School Psychologists Association and Ohio School Psychologists Association. Iwana is survived by her two sons, Joseph Gray (Nancy) of Marietta and Don W. Simon (Trudi) of New Paris, four grandchildren, Anne and Eric Gray and Anna Purvis (Casey) and Zachery Simon, and three great grandchildren, Madeline Gray and Sophia Rose Simon and Gage Thomas Simon. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carter H. Gray and Charles Thomas Simon, a sister, Genevieve Mills and three brothers, G. Clark Mills, O.C. Mills and L. Donald Mills. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery. Donations may be made to the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta, 232 Third St. Marietta, Ohio 45750.
