James B. "Jim" Dunn, 89, of Marietta, Ohio and Hilton Head Island, SC, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his home in Marietta. He was born on August 6, 1928 in Clarington, Ohio to the late Homer Kester and Elsie Belle Fagert Dunn.
Jim attended grade school and high school in Sardis and was a 1950 graduate of Ohio University. He started his career in public accounting in the Pittsburgh office of Price Waterhouse & Co. He became a CPA in 1952, and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Jim came to Marietta in 1956 and became Controller and Treasurer of Marietta Concrete Corporation. He opened his own CPA firms in PA, WV, TN, OH and SC. He had been Owner and President of Worthington Manor Care Center in Parkersburg, WV.
Jim was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Marietta Boat Club, Parkersburg Country Club and Dolphin Head Country Club on Hilton Head Island. He was a member of Clarington Lodge 597, Marietta Shrine Club and Marietta Council #78. He enjoyed time spent with his family, golfing, boating and traveling.
He is survived by two sons, Homer Dunn of Marietta and Mark Dunn of Coolville; two step daughters, Melinda Groves (Doug) of Florissant, MO and Marilyn Grandison of Mount Pleasant, PA; grandchildren, Jason Dunn (Rachael) of Columbus, OH and Rachel Gerber (Nathan) of Mt. Vernon, OH; great grandson, Hunter James Dunn; sister Annette Mobley of Woodsfield, Ohio; and niece, Anastasia Yeater (Dave).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma A. Lambert Dunn, whom he married on May 29, 1981; son, James F. Dunn; daughter, Jill N. Dunn; and Mary F. Dunn, mother of his children.
In his final weeks, Jimmy was cared for by Comfort Keepers, Amedisys Hospice of Marietta, Janice Hutchinson of Hilton Head, granddaughter, Rachel Gerber, his niece, Anastasia, and his sister, Annette.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Archer officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
