James Edwin Gribble, Sr., 85, of Layman, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, in Marietta. Born in Palmer Township, Washington County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jean and Alma Morris Gribble. He was a graduate of Vincent High School. He had worked as a furnace operator at Eramet, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Layman United Methodist Church and the Marietta Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He loved working in his garden and playing cards. Jim was also a founding member of the Warren VFD. He is survived by his wife, E. Jean Rapp Tewanger Gribble, they were married on July 9, 1988; two sons, Gary Gribble (Nancy) of Fleming and James Gribble, Jr. (Kay) of Cutler; two daughters, Linn Farnsworth (Lee) of Vincent and Barbara Marks (Steve) of Forest, VA; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren adn 11 step great grandchildren; a granddaughter-in-law, Laura McKnight (Steve) of Athens; stepson, Samuel Tewanger (Debbie) of Lower Salem and four step daughters, Patty Huck (Arnold) of Vincent, Bonnie Offenberger (Kenneth) of Marietta, Connie Arnold (Terry) of Waterford and Amy Lang (Patrick) of Lowell; sister, Ruth Varner of Yellow Springs, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Gribble of Cutler and Bruce Gribble (Jean) of Canton, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, first wife, Lulu Dolak Gribble, sister, Mary Yost, grandson, Todd Gribble and two step grandchildren, Anthony and Johanna Arnold. Funeral services 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, Lou Whitney officiating.
