James E. Hoy, M.D., 84, of Marietta, Ohio, died Friday, February 24, 2017, after a short illness.
He was born on December 21, 1932, in Shawnee, Ohio, to Clark and Sarah Hoy. Jim practiced ophthalmology in Marietta from 1966 to 1990.
He was a member of the the American Medical Association, Linking Magic Ring #197, the Lions Club, the First Unitarian Universalist Society, and was past Director of the Institute for Learning in Retirement. Jim enjoyed time with his family and was well known for his love of magic, literature and his sense of humor. He loved traveling, reading and teaching.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Borden Hoy, whom he married on June 8, 1957; his daughter, Sarah Gottlieb (Richard) of Charleston, WV; two sons, Robert Hoy (Cindy) of Marietta, and David Hoy (Shelley) of Springboro, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Maggie Tardy, Jeb and Ellen Sears, Max Gottlieb, and Amanda, Truman and Jude Hoy; and two great granddaughters, Ava and Claire Tardy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Hoy. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the First Unitarian Universalist Society. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Burial of his ashes will be in Mound Cemetery.
