James "Jimmy" P. McCarthy, 60, o f Marietta, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Naples, FL. He was born on November 10, 1951 in Alma, MI, to Gordon James and Lucy Jane Putnam McCarthy. Jimmy graduated from Alma High School in 1970. He was a salesman and manager of many car dealerships over the years, and opened the restaurant in Rink's Flea Market, where he was a cook. Jimmy was an avid sports fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers, loved to cook, had a passion for model trains, and was a member of the Mid Ohio Valley Model Railroad Club. He is survived by his father of Marietta; three children, Margaret Boersma (Ben) of Springhill, TN, Gordon McCarthy (Wendy) of Marietta, and Angie McCarthy of Naples; seven grandchildren, Kari, Samantha, and Natalie Boersma, Patrick, Cassidy, Kelsey and Alton McCarthy; four sisters, Linda Hofbauer of Mebane, NC, Susan Potter (John) of Grandville, MI, Pamela Bolt of Freemont, MI, and Janet Sparks of Marietta; one brother, Benjamin McCarthy (Dawn) of Rockford, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with The Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. Family will greet friends on Friday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, P.O.
