James Palmer Reed, 95, Devola, died Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, OH. Born November 22, 1919, in Palmer Square, Washington County, he was a son of the late Fletcher and Lucy Palmer Reed.
He was an Army veteran of WWII and a graduate of Marietta College. Mr. Reed was a tool and die engineer, having retired from Gould, Inc. in Caldwell in 1987, following 35 years of service. He was an aviation enthusiast, and was still flying planes into his eighties.
He married Doris H. McGregor in 1947. She preceded him in death June 9,2009. He is survived by two sons, Phillip Reed of Davie, FL, and Ronald Reed of Columbus. Also by a granddaughter, Kristen Reed of Denver, CO. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Love and by two half-brothers, Dudley and Howard Reed.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Diann O'Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Barlow Central Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday, from 5-8 pm.
