Jane R. Crandall, 86, of Marietta, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at her residence. She was born August 5, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY to Clarence Ryder and Edith Landsheft Runals. She received her BA at Mount Holyoke College in Shadley, MA, and had taken classes at Marietta College. She taught Social Studies at Marietta City Schools for sixteen years. Jane was a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers and the State of Ohio Retired Teachers, where she was made a Jennings Scholar. She helped to organize Marietta College Institute for Learning in Retirement, and served as program chairman for several years. She was active in the Washington County Republican Party, was a member of the Central and Executive Committees and had served as secretary. Jane had been a Cub Scout leader and Girl Scout assistant leader, served on the Board of the Woman's Home, and was a member of the Betsey Mills Club. She had been active in church activities and was a member of the Williams Creek Baptist Church. Jane is survived by her son, James R. Crandall (Dianne) of Marietta, her two daughters, Janet Walk of Williamstown, WV and Sally Bowman (Dan) of Stow, eight grandchildren, Margaret Crandall of Salem, OR, Danielle Burns (Mike) of Westerville, Erin Hotalen (Jason) of Stafford, VA, Derck Crandall, USAF, San Antonio, TX, Jeremiah Walk (fianc, Julie Timmons) of Akron, Adam Walk (Nicole) of Williamstown, Alayne Bowman of Raleigh, NC, and Eric Bowman of Stow, four great grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Stewart of Marietta, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Crandall, and her brother, John Runals. Memorial services will be held at the Williams Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Horner officiating. The family will greet friends at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to Marietta Home Health & Hospice, 210 N.
