Jean Elnora Pickens, 87, of Marietta, died Thursday evening (May 23, 2013) at Heartland of Marietta. Born Aug, 17, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Baird Warren and Mabel Woodford Koon Sr. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School. Employed as a cook, she had retired from the Marietta City Schools, and later had cooked for one of the fraternities at Marietta College.
Jean enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. She was a very dedicated mother, who enjoyed time spent with family. Jean was always available to "go for a ride" with her family.
Surviving are one daughter and three sons: Velinda Graham (Greg), of Marietta; Charles A. "Bud" Pickens, II, Newport, Tenn.; Michael "Mike" Pickens (Tonya), Clermont, Fla.; and William "Bill" Pickens (Wanda), Forest Hill, Md. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Baird W. Koon Jr. (Sally Voll), of Marietta.
Jean was married Oct. 31, 1943, to Charles Arthur Pickens, who preceded her in death Feb. 17, 1996. Also deceased are a son, Jeffrey Lynn, a granddaughter, Lindsey Marie Graham, and two sisters, Norma Hill and Sally Angelillo.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Her family will greet friends on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m., up until service time.
