Jean was born April 28, 1936 to Dana and Thelma Coffman. She graduated from Lowell high school and then began her adventures in life! Jean moved to Columbus, Ohio where she worked in an office for the state highway maintenance department before flying to Germany at the age of 19 to marry Tom Shank at Frustenfeldbruck Air Base Chapel. Jean lived in California and then Texas before returning to her roots in Ohio where she raised her five children. Following retirement from her office manager position at Rumpke she moved to Winterhaven, Florida. Jean's youngest daughter, Krista, invited her to move to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to her and her family. Jean spent the last 13 years living near family and established many close friendships in Atlanta. She continued to maintain her lifelong friendships in Lowell and traveled back to Ohio frequently to visit with them.
Those who were fortunate to know Jean remember her as a caring and loving person, always willing to help and making friends wherever she went. She truly never met a stranger and always looked for the good in others. She deeply loved her family and loved spending time with them. She fought a long and courageous battle with COPD, emphysema and lung cancer but never let it stop her. A month before she left us she was able to travel on a family beach vacation to celebrate the new year.
Jean will be dearly missed by her children: Thomas L Shank II of Lowell, Ohio, Dr. DeAnna Frye and her husband Dean of North Royalton, Ohio, Krista Baldwin and her husband Tom of Atlanta, Georgia, Brett Shank of Marietta, Ohio and her son-in-law, Doug Merriman, of Prospect, Connecticut. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: John Merriman, Natasha Shank, Christian Shank, Stefen Frye, Brenden Frye, Samuel Merriman, Justin Frye, Hydia Farnsworth (husband Andy), Lily Baldwin, Jonathan Baldwin and great granddaughter Avereigh Farnsworth. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law Jon and Millie Coffman and her nieces Wendy Funderburk (Chuck) and Tracey Rowsey (Jerry) and great nephews Chad Rowsey, Trey Funderburk, Troy Funderburk, and Kevin Rowsey. She will be greatly missed by her life long card club friends in Lowell as well.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Lisa and her grandson, B. Dean Frye Jr.
Friends are invited to join Jean's family for a service and celebration of her life at St. John's Evangelical Church, 312 Fourth St., Lowell, Ohio at 11 a.m. March 2. Internment at Greenlawn cemetery in Lowell, Ohio. The church has kindly offered to provide a reception immediately following internment. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to St. John's Evangelical Church in Jean's name.
