Jeannette Louise Sheppard

Jeannette Louise Haas Sheppard, 82, of Marietta, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at The Ohio State University in Columbus. She was born July 27, 1927 to Emmett W. and Goldie Dutton Haas. She spent her early years in Lower Salem, Ohio, and was a graduate of Marietta High School and Swarthmore College, where she majored in math, and met her husband, William M. Sheppard. She worked in her family's business, the Haas Insurance Agency, as a young adult, and was a homemaker much of her life. An avid bridge player, she also loved spending time outdoors walking and relaxing with her family at the old Dutton farm, outside of Elba, Ohio. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter U Sisterhood, the Washington County Democratic Women's Club, and for a number of years, the Betsey Mills Book Club. She is survived by her daughter, Ann L. Sheppard, of Marietta, son, Mark H. Sheppard (Ellen C.), of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren, William M. Sheppard of Alexandria, Virginia and Matthew G. and Chelsea A. Sheppard of Pittsburgh. Her husband and her brother, William H. Haas, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 23, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Her ashes will be interred in Oak Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Marietta Community Foundation, P.O.
