Joan Marie Rech, 90, of Whipple, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 17, 1928 in Lowell, Ohio to Earl A. and Hilma Beach Smith.
Joan was a 1946 graduate of Marietta High School, and attended Business College in Columbus, Ohio. For 30 years she worked alongside her husband in the family business, Rech Farm Equipment. Before that, Joan worked for Cresent Supply. Joan was a life member of Highland Ridge Community Church, where she was involved in the women's group, Willing Workers. She was also a volunteer for Franciscan Meals. Her family was her livelihood, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her two children, Karen Kidwiler (Don) and Michael Rech (Kelly Lemon), both of Whipple; five grandchildren, Natalie Gray, Nathan Russell, Steven Rech (Meagan), Jesse Rech and Jasmine Lemon; six great grandchildren, Makenzie Russell, Zachary Russell, Sadie Gray, and Bailee Rech, John David and Mason Rech; two siblings, Dorothy Stauch (Richard) of Marietta; and Earl J. Smith (Joan) of Lowell; two sisters in law, Sarah Handschumaker of Newark, Ohio, and Dorothy Smith of Marietta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death on May 25, 1999 by her husband, John Lewis Rech, whom she married on December 12, 1948; siblings, Robert E., William P., Paul R. Smith and Marcella Scott; and in laws, Clara Smith, Alta Smith, Walter Scott and Robert Handschumaker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Highland Ridge Community Church with Pastors Johnny Felton and Kevin Lauer co-officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.
