John Audrey Benton, 70, of Marietta, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 29, 1948 in Marietta, to the late Norris and Jeanette Burke Benton.
John graduated from Marietta High School and went to barber school in Columbus. He retired from RJF after 38 years of employment. John was a member of Fresh Fire Ministries, loved cooking, was a huge Pittsburgh Steeler fan and was kind to everyone he knew. He loved to go shopping, but more for the opportunity to run into someone and talk with them.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ann Douglas Benton, whom he married on January 27, 1990; three children, Uriah Hill, Nicole Benton (Ryan McCurdy) and Natalie Benton, all of Marietta; three granddaughters, Jaydon Benton, Aneesha McCurdy and Joselyn Castin; siblings, Nora Lewis, Brett Benton, Angela Stevens (Tim), Bruce Benton (Jackie) and Rob Benton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Dr. Christopher Longgrear officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial of his ashes will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later time.
