John Jay Hunter, better known to most as "The Candy Man" died at his home, at the age of 82. He was born in Marietta on September 15, 1932 to Clarence and Margaret Guckert Hunter. He was a 1950 graduate of Marietta High School and had received some cryptograph schooling. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Korea. John retired from Elkem in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #64 and of Twin Rivers Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, sports, and spending time with family and friends. John is survived by his wife, Martha Bauerbach Hunter, whom he married on May 24, 1986; two children, Teresa Jamison (Jeff) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Brian Hunter (Becky), four step children, Joyce Lang of the home, Tammie Farmer (Roger) of Hockingport, Ann Lang-Clark (Ivan) of Boardman and Rick Lang (Denise) of Waterford, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a brother, Randall, of Marietta. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Paul, Bob, Boyd and Don Hunter and six sisters, his twin, J. Joan, Doris, Grace, Mary Lou, Gladys and Norma Jean. There will be a memorial service held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, with Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service and there will be a reception following the service, at the funeral home.
