John Kent Hushion

John Kent Hushion, 83, of Marietta, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Selby Hospital in Marietta. He was born on January 6, 1927 in Parkersburg, WV to Michael W. and Dorothy McGlothlin Hushion. John graduated from Parkersburg High School and Webb Institute of Naval Architecture. He served in the U.S. Navy in the V-12 Program from 1944 to 1946 and the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, as well as in the Merchant Marine in the winter of 1947-1948. John owned and managed Hyde Brothers Printing Company from 1960 until retirement in 1992. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon, Elder and 1965 Building Committee Co-Chairman. John was Past President of the Marietta Advertising Club and Marietta Chamber of Commerce. He was also a former Campaign Chairman and Board President of Marietta United Appeal, a Marietta College Trustee for 22 years and Chairman of the Board's Executive Committee for 17 years. John was Jaycee Citizen of the Year in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Joan Smoot Hushion, they were married on September 9, 1950. He is also survived by two sons, Michael Hushion (Mary) of Beavercreek, Ohio and Tom Hushion (Teresa) of Marietta; three grandchildren, Kent, Katie and Christian Hushion; and one brother, Joe Hushion (Susan) of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, John Kent Hushion, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with The Rev. George Spransy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
