John David Wentz

September 9, 1921 — March 24, 2016

John David Wentz, 94, of Marietta, died Thursday, March 24, 2016, at his home. Although we lost our father a few years ago to dementia, we recently lost him to The Lord. He was born September 9, 1921 in Rockland, Ohio to Samuel Warren and Vernice Mary Shaw Wentz. John attended Vincent High School and served in the Air Force during World War II. He had worked at Union Carbide for 29 years. John was a member of the Barlow-Vincent Church of Christ and was a member of American Legion Post #64, Marietta. He was a horse lover and had raised horses all of his life. He is survived by a daughter, M. Marie McGraw (Joe) of Vincent; two sons, David Wentz (Kathy) and Charles Wentz (Beverly), both of Marietta; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Wentz (Margaret) of Veto, one sister, Olive Bonar, of Veto and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Ruth Reynolds Wentz, two brothers, Samuel, Jr. and Virgil Wentz, and four sisters, Lamina Perdue, Laura Gene Wynn, Geneva Wilson and Mary Adams. A special thank you to Sandy Beals for her special care and dedication to our father for many years, and also to all other caregivers who helped him. Funeral services will be held at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., with Nathan Greene, Minister, officiating. Friends may call for three hours prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in Veto Cemetery. Donations may be made to Barlow-Vincent Church of Christ Building Fund.
