Joretta Rose Nicholas

May 27, 1946 — September 5, 2014

Our dear friend, family member, and community affiliate, Joretta Rose Nicholas has passed away on September 5, 2014. She took her last breaths of life in Richland, Washington, surrounded by her loving family.
Joretta was born on May 27, 1946 alongside her twin sister and best friend Loretta, in Marietta, Ohio. The two lived in Lowell, Ohio with their mother Kathryn Strahler Nicholas, father Arthur Nicholas, older brother Daniel, and younger brother Jerry. While in the younger years of Joretta's life, she enjoyed playing sports, such as softball, bowling, and basketball, and was mostly known as a tom boy. People who watched Joretta play softball, admired her fast ball pitching skills.
In her working career, she most enjoyed, working for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. She was a Quality Control Inspector and mentioned multiple times how grateful she was for getting such opportunity. Joretta also worked for Sea Ray Yachts, where she was in construction of cabinet making. Over the span of eight years, Joretta spent time in the Hawaiian Islands, where she managed several large condominium projects. Due to the illness of her mother, Joretta returned back to Ohio to be caregiver.
Over time, Joretta made it obvious how much she truly cared for her family. She was always involved in family get togethers, baby sitting her nieces and nephews, and treating all the children as if they were her own. Joretta continuously took hundreds of pictures and videos of her family events, to remember all of the beautiful moments. She was well known for her love for animals and no doubt has an entire kennel in heaven. Not only would Joretta do anything for family, but also all of her friends. The thought of seeing others around her happy, automatically made her filled with joy. The selfless attitude that radiated out of Joretta was mesmerizing.
She spent her last few years in Richland, Washington, battling a tough fight against brain cancer. Her twin sister Loretta was with her every step of the way, and will one day see her beautiful sister again. Although Joretta went through many health hardships in her life time, we like to remember her as the strong, admirable, loving person that we all know she is.
Joretta is survived by her twin sister Loretta Miller, brother in law Michael Miller (both of Richland, WA), brothers Daniel and Jerry Nicholas (both of Pampa, TX), and many other relatives and friends who reside all around America.
The family of Joretta would like to thank all of the doctors and caregivers at Columbia Basin Hematology & Oncology, doctors and caregivers in Marietta, Ohio, the staff at Guardian Angel Homes, and all of the caregivers and chaplains with Hospice at the Chaplaincy.
Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Cemetery in Lowell. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
