Joyce Hayes Torpy

Joyce was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School, a class of 18 distinguished graduates, and she received her Bachelor's degree from Marietta College. She was a dental assistant for Robert B. Stickrath, DDS for many years, was an antique dealer and owned the antique store, Red Pony. Joyce loved dancing, horses, painting, old ships, the sea, lighthouses and collecting antiques. In her younger years, she worked for her father at his furniture store, Brickwede Brothers Furniture Company.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Michelle Torpy; grandson, Jason Daniel Torpy; brother, Daniel Torpy and his wife, Estelle; cousin, Shirley Roddy; several nieces, nephews and cousins; best friend, Geraldine Pouzide; and dear friends considered family, Pamela Venham Morrow, Benjamin Franklin Sauer and Pam Bee. Joyce is also survived her four legged family, her service dog and faithful companion, Bear and her cats, Tiggy Tiger and Shadow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles William Torpy whom she married on June 20, 1956; and son, William Daniel Torpy.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
