Kenneth "Ken" Robert Dougherty, 75, of Marietta, Ohio, died Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1943, in Jersey City, NJ, to James Francis and Marie Anna Ackerly Dougherty.
Ken was very proud of his Navy career of 27 years 4 months and 11 days, serving for 38 months in Vietnam. He was a Postal Carrier, through the Parkersburg Post Office. Ken was Catholic by faith, a life member of the VFW #5108, and a member of the Sgt. Bob O'Malley Detachment #1436 of the Marine Corps League. He loved salt water fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, golfing and traveling, having visited 33 countries. Ken had been a volunteer to MOVVO.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Lyons Dougherty, whom he married on June 26, 1993; son, Jayme Dougherty of Guam; two step daughters, Kathryn Kunze of Massillon, Ohio and Ren'ee Brown (Jared) of Lowell, Ohio; step son, Vincent Kunze of Reno, Ohio; like a son, Mick McCardell of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Jena Harris, Anyon Kunze (Chelsea), Catherine Buckley (Joe), Cami Amstutz, Ashton Burrows, Christian Welsh, Rheagan Rector; great grandson, Kenyon Kunze; brother, James Dougherty (Rhonda); and Uncle Bob Dougherty (Dani).
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Naudia McCardell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Reggie Pickering, Chaplain for the Sgt. Bob O'Malley Detachment, officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park, with full military honors observed. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
