Kenneth Vincent McVicar, 89, of Barlow, died Saturday, January 14, 2012, at his residence. He was born on October 2, 1922 to Ethel (Fuller) and Malcolm McVicar in Vincent, Ohio. He graduated from Vincent High School in 1940. In October, 1942, he joined the Navy and became an aircraft mechanic. When WWII ended he was aboard the USS Boxer Aircraft Carrier which became part of the Japanese Occupational Force. On July 15, 1946 he married Myrtie Louise Blauser. He re-enlisted in the Navy four days after his marriage. Kenneth served in the Navy 9 years and then joined the Air Force and served for 11 years. He served in Korea during the Korean War. Kenneth belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution and was a life member of American Legion Post 64 and the V.F.W. Post 5108. After retiring from the Air Force he worked two and a half years as a licensed electrician for Hoon Inc. in Athens, OH, and later became supervisor of air craft maintenance for Rambar Aviation in Parkersburg. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Christine (Andy Weisgerber) McVicar, Vicki (Jeremy) McDonie and Nancy McVicar, three grandsons, Ian (Angie) Whan, Caleb Weisgerber, and Griffin McVicar, granddaughter, Zoe McDonie and great granddaughters, Audrey and Amanda Whan, one sister, Janice (Miles) McGregor and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by brothers Russell and Herbert, and sisters, Ruth Mitchell and Dorothy Miller. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with The Rev. Helen Kline officiating. There will be full military honors observed following the services at the funeral home. Visitation will be on Wednesday for two hours prior to services at the funeral home.
