Laura Joan Walter (Joan) passed away December 24, 2015 at the age of 84 at Hannah's House in Marietta. She was born April 5, 1931 the youngest of nine children of Albert and Laura Schwendeman Walter. Joan grew up on the family farm in Churchtown before moving into the "City" where she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Airolite Corporation until retirement. Joan eventually moved back to the family farm that she so loved where she lived until moving to Hannah's House. She was an avid bowler and was involved with several leagues throughout the years. Joan was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. To those who knew her, she had a touch of orneriness and sense of humor that was infectious and she will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her parents and seven brothers and sisters, namely, Mildred Walter Wilking; Eugene Walter, Allene Walter Clark, Louise Walter Stewart, Ralph Walter, Joseph Walter and Wilbert Walter. She is survived by one sister, Rita Gibbs, of Cincinnati, Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews.
Special Thanks to Lexi Conley and Connie Strahler at Hannah's House for their extra care and kindness to Joan.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Virgil Reishman celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is honored to serve Joan's family.
