Lila Elizabeth Hill, 102, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at her home in the Glenwood Community. She was born on January 9, 1922, in New Matamoras, Ohio, to George Brady and Theora Ann Scherber Doan.
Lila graduated from Stover High School in New Matamoras in 1939 and Marietta Business Institute in Marietta with a secretarial degree. She was employed by the Farmer’s Home Administration in Indianapolis, then during WWII she transferred to Wright Field in Dayton. Lila eventually returned to Marietta where she worked for Okmar Oil Company, Whitman Oil & Gas, and Voyager Oil & Gas.
Lila loved to stay involved in everything that was important to her. She was a life member of Doane Family Association (DFA) and Matamoras Area Historical Society, was a member of the Mayflower Association, Washington County Historical Society, Washington County Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS), Marietta Chapter #59 O.E.S. the Order of Eastern Stars, The Marietta Chapter and National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Daughters of Union Veterans (DUV), The Friends of The Museum, VFW Auxiliary #5108, American Legion Auxiliary #64, and the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Lila enjoyed genealogy, volunteering, bowling and sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Marietta College Pioneers.
She is survived by her nephew, Jeffrey (Margaret) Doan, nieces, Carol O’Grady and Jane Ann (Jeffrey) Schwab, several great nieces, nephews and her Glenwood community family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Steve (Sandra) Hill, brothers, Robert (Mary Lou) Doan and James (Wilma) Doan, nephews, James Doan and John O’Grady.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Patricia Vargas officiating. Family will greet friends for two hours prior to the services. At a later date, her ashes will be buried at Salem Township Cemetery.
