Margaret E. Born, 98, died Friday, February 4, 2011, at Harmar Place in Marietta, Ohio. She formerly resided at The Pines and Jaycee Estates in Marietta. She was born June 22, 1912 in Toledo, where she lived until November, 1995, when she moved to Marietta. She was a graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo, and was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and serving on many church boards and committees. She was an active member and officer of the United Methodist Women and the Lois Circle. She later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. Her volunteer work included the Red Cross, where she helped with blood drives during World War II and post war as a Gray Lady at Flower Hospital. When the hospital built the Lake Park Skilled Nursing Facility, Margaret was recruited to oversee its volunteer program. She also served on the board of Friendly Center. In later years, she worked as bookkeeper for St. Francis High School for Boys, retiring in 1977. Mrs. Born is survived by her daughter, Carol D. Norris and her husband, Allan T., of Marietta, two grandchildren, Thomas A. Norris of Washington D.C. and Sara E. (David) Plogman of Marcellus, NY, two great grandchildren, Edward A. and Audrey E. Plogman of Marcellus, and two nieces, Jane Hochmuth and Suzanne Smithers of Toledo, as well as various great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph H. Born, whom she married on June 14, 1934. They were married 31 years, until his death in December of 1963. Also preceding her were her son, Donald E. Born, of Toledo her parents, Ruby (Adams) and Earnest Cobb, a brother, Wayne Cobb, and a sister, Mary Waggoner. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta, with the Rev. George Spransy officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Her burial will be in Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Turner Music Endowment Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750. Those services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Mausoleum Chapel. Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front St., Marietta, is handling the arrangements.
