Dr. Margaret (Marge) Ross, age 90, passed away at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio on April 2, 2018. Born in Harrisville, Michigan April 19, 1927 to Leon R. Ross and Rena M. Miller, Margaret was preceded in death by all five of her siblings. Although never married she was a mom, sibling and best friend with her four nieces and two nephews: Nancy Lambert (Richard), Jan Martin (Webb), Toni McLellan (John), Lorri King (Dan), Kim Ross (Joyce), Keith Somers (Eva), as well as eleven grand nieces and nephews and twelve great grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by scores of friends where she lived, around the country and wherever she traveled. Margaret established the Marietta College Counseling Center in 1967 and retired after 25 years as its director in 1992, but continued to teach for two years in the Marietta College's McDonough Leadership Program. In addition to her duties at the College she conducted many workshops for industries in the mid-Ohio valley and elsewhere, including New Zealand public schools. Prior to returning to college to earn a Ph.D, M.Ed and M.A. in counseling she taught music in public schools in Carsonville, Manton and Rudyard in Michigan. Margaret loved travel and photography, visiting all the continents except the Antarctic. She held numerous academic honors and authored two books and a number of articles in professional publications about counseling. In addition, for ten years she edited Expander, a newsletter for high school guidance counselors. Even as she began her tenth decade, she remained a very active member of the community and continued to travel independently. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at The First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, with The Rev. David Smith officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marietta College or the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, OH.
