Mark Ainsley Redd passed away at his home in Marietta Ohio early Sunday morning on October 13th, 2019 at the age of 70.
Mark was born in Washington D.C. in February of 1949 to Leila and Marvin Redd. When he was 6 his family moved to Tacoma Park Maryland where he went to grade school then Montgomery Blair High school. In 1968 Mark started attending George Washington University. After meeting Studs Turkle and Truman Capote in an American Literature class he changed his major to American Literature.
Mark was an artistic man and loved to write, draw and paint and play music and of course, an avid reader. He joined his first band at age 13 with a cheap Sears keyboard and a broken hand. The highlight of his musical career was playing at the opening of the Kennedy Center in D.C. He never lost his love of music
He worked as a musician until he was 27 when he met Nina White and his future stepson Thomas Maxwell Harrison (Max). Mark and Nina were Married on July 26th 1980, in their backyard under a parachute in Falls Church Virginia.
He was a passionate Democrat and Unitarian Universalist. Mark worked in Transportation and Logistics until his retirement in 2014. In August of 2014 Mark and Nina relocated from Ashburn, VA, bought a house and settled down in Marietta Ohio and Joined the First Unitarian Universalists Society of Marietta.
Mark is survived by his wife Nina Kathryn Redd, his stepson Thomas Maxwell Harrison, his sister in law and Nina's sister Pat Humphreys and Pat's husband Buddy Humphreys.
His celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta, with The. Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker officiating. Family will greet friends at a reception following the services at the church.
