Martha Elizabeth Gerhart

Martha Elizabeth Gerhart, 98, of Marietta, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Emeritus in Marietta. She was born January 17, 1914 in Marietta to Carl Balthasas and Hattie Phaff Stephan. She was a graduate of Marietta High School. Martha was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son, Stephen Gerhart (Joan) of Marietta, daughters, Melissa Kirk (Wendell) of Kingsport, TN and Laraine Mitchell (Eddie) of Phoenix, AZ, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Frederick Gerhart on February 14, 2004; they were married on June 8, 1935, also by two brothers, Charles Louis and Howard Floyd Stephan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven M. Mahaffey officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Marietta Home Nursing & Hospice, 450 Pike St., Suite I-1 or to St. Luke's Lutheran Memorial Fund, 401 Scammel St., Marietta, OH 45750.
