Mary Rita Offenberger, 93, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Waterview Pointe in Marietta. She was born on October 3, 1930 in Waterford, Ohio, to the late Paul Nicholas and Mildred Catherine Meiser Bauerbach.
She was a 1949 graduate of Waterford High School. Mary Rita married Herman Francis Offenberger on October 5, 1949. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, Catholic Women’s Club, Senior Crafters Club, St. Vincent DePaul and Franciscan Meals, where she was on the board and volunteered. Mary Rita enjoyed quilting, crafting, baking, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children: Kenneth (Bonnie), Larry (Tammy Nichols), Tom (Anita), Randy, Judy Schneider (Bill), Jerry (Joyce), and Scott (Lora); grandchildren: Andrew (Kelli), Stephanie Soderlund (Daniel), Aaron (Lisa), Stacy Binegar (Tim), Ashley Boettcher (David), Megan Smith (Michael), Grant Schneider (Jingjing), Emily Evanoo (Eric), Michelle Yingling (Aaron), Janell Bright (Roger), Craig, Christina Kozak (Bobby), Katelyn Oster, Cody (Abby), Austin (Breanna Lewis), and Logan; step grandson, Thad Smith; 28 great-grandchildren: Aden, Autumn, Meadow, Allanah, Soren, Cason, Avery, Brendan, Helena, Rylan, Joseph, Joanna, Caden, Teagan, Julia, Theodore, Sebastian, Blaise, Watson, Oliver, Jennifer, Madylene, Seraphina, Riley, Sapphira, Mia, Liam, and Bradley; siblings: Harold (Hazel) Bauerbach, Dorothy Huck (Charlie), Jeanette Davis, Martha Hunter (Don), and Francis Bauerbach (Darlene); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Francis Offenberger; daughter, Janet Mary Offenberger; grandson, Ryan Mark Offenberger; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Ann Offenberger; brothers, Louis, Carl, Richard, Dale, and Clarence; and sisters, Edna and Anna Mae.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Msgr. J. Michael Campbell celebrating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at THE MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, with a Vigil Service held at 3 p.m.
