Mary Ann Spires Beardmore Smith, 92, passed away at The Harmar Place Community, on Thursday, August 16, 2024. She was born in Marietta, Ohio, on July 21, 1932, to Herman Spires and Florence Blair Spires.
She is survived by children Micheline “Michi” (Dave) Westfall of North Palm Beach, Michael (Carol) Beardmore of Marietta, Colene (Gary) Spindler of Marietta, Jon Beardmore of Marietta, and Scott (Carol) Beardmore of Hardeeville, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leslie (Chad) Hibbets, Meredith Beardmore, Ryan (Cathy) Spindler, Jason (fiancée Sheri Sadler) Spindler, Hilary Beardmore, and Tylor Beardmore Smith; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jayne (Ken) Godsey, Anne Bohanes, and Darlene Schob.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, daughter Kristy Beardmore, grandson Joel Beardmore, brother James “Jim” Schob, husband Russell C. Smith, and the father of her children, William “Dave” Beardmore.
Mary Ann graduated from Marietta High School Class of 1950. She was very active over the years planning her class’s reunions. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and reading mysteries. She was a homemaker for most of her life, except for the years she worked in Marietta College’s post office and in JC Penney’s catalog department. In 1976, she married Russell C. Smith and moved to Parkersburg, WV, with the two youngest children. Mary Ann and Russell then moved to the Smith Family Farm in Rockport, WV, where they enjoyed farm life, as well as, traveling to the western states. After Russell died, Mary Ann returned to Marietta where she was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church.
The family is very grateful for the compassionate care provided by Peggy West (of Dr. Brockett’s office) and the employees of The Harmar Place. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army of Marietta or Gilman United Methodist Church.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
