Mary Josephine Strahler

Mary Josephine Strahler, 93, of Alta St., Marietta, OH, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 17, 2013. She was born April 28, 1920 in Marietta to Albert C. and Bertha Christy Neader, who were descended from pioneer German families of Washington County. She was married to Francis L. Strahler at St. Mary Church, Marietta, on July 6, 1939, he preceded her in death on July 24, 1968. Mary attended St. Mary's School and at the age of 70 earned her GED. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and the Catholic Women's Club. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, crafts, her flower garden, and especially time spent with her family and friends. She had worked at Piecegoods, Alta St. Grocery, SunMart, YMCA Daycare, Lowell Elementary School, and the O'Neill Center. She was a volunteer at Marietta Memorial Hospital for many years. She is survived by her six children, Marilyn Morgan of Westerville, OH, Joanne Rogers of Essex, VT, Charlotte Magnani (Paul) of Essex, VT, Ken Strahler (Julia) of Marietta, Theresa Thomas (Gary) of Marietta, and Bettie Strahler of Greenwood Village, CO, her twelve grandchildren, Michael Morgan (Tamela) of Hackettstown, NJ, Pamela Cribbs (James) of Hillard, OH, Christopher Rogers (Christine) of Fairfax, VT, Mark Morgan (Stephanie) of London, OH, Francis Strahler (Leigh Anne) of New Albany, OH, Jill Long (Scott) of Beverly, OH, Patrick Rogers of Essex, VT, Jerry Strahler of Marietta, Kendra Hartman (Travis) of Bellevue, OH, Jason Magnani (Erin) of Halifax, MA, Luke Strahler of Pataskala, OH, Seth Thomas of Marietta, her sixteen great grandchildren, Kathleen, Andrew and Connor Morgan, Abigail and Virginia Cribbs, Cora and Lena Morgan, Abigail and Brady Rogers, Bridget and Owen Magnani, Max, Lucy and Scott Hartman, Alexandra and Spencer Long, two brothers, Robert Neader of Sun City, AZ and Albert Neader of Marietta, one sister, Rose Hilvert of Burlington, KY, her in laws, Mary Neader, Richard and Bertha Pottmeyer, Anna Mae Strahler, Liz Strahler of Marietta, Mary Grasley of Pickerington, OH, Jack Henniger of Lowell, OH, Georgette Strahler of Laguna Woods, CA, Ralph and Eloise Strahler of Bloomingburg, OH, Dave Parsons of Jacksonville Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Walter and Fred Neader, two sisters, Jean Parsons and Sr. Rita Louise Neader, one great grandchild, Thomas Morgan, two sons in law, James Morgan and James Rogers. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Churchtown. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School, for the adoption of books for the library, St. Mary Church Restoration Fund, both of those at 506 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750, the O'Neill Senior Center, 333 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750, or to your favorite charity.
