Michael Lee King

January 13, 1949 — June 19, 2017

Michael Lee "Mike" King, 68, of Marietta, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 19, 2017 in Marietta. He was born on January 13, 1949 in Milford, DE, to the late Martin and Rose Procek King.
Mike graduated from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV and received a Masters degree from Ohio University. He taught for over 30 years for Wood County Schools, mostly at Williamstown Elementary, where he taught many children to love reading.
Mike was a member of Tunnel United Methodist Church, where he was very active, making his commitment to the Lord in 1980. He served as a Lay speaker for many years and worked on many Emmaus walks and Upward Basketball. Mike was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Ring #197, and had been active with the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. His magic shows were especially for children and had a gospel message. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, traveling and refereeing basketball and football. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Nothnagel King, whom he married on May 8, 1971; two daughters, Marty Baumgartner of Marietta and Laura Forni (Kyle) of Pataskala, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Adelaide, Neela, Emery and Cruz Forni. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mike was well loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Sigurd Christiansen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with The Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Tunnel Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
