Nancy Ann Hoy

Nancy Borden Hoy, 85, of Marietta, Ohio, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Elmcroft of Marietta. She was born on May 4, 1933 in Erie, PA, to Robert Oswald and Lucille Bauschard Borden.
Nancy received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Hood College and later received her Masters of Liberal Arts from Marietta College. She was a consultant dietitian to Marietta area nursing homes. She assisted numerous businesses in listing their property on the National Historical Registrar. She was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church, Washington County Historical Society and the League of Women Voters. She was a docent at Campus Martius, Fearing House, the Castle and the Anchorage in Marietta. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, tennis and was a life-long golfer.
Nancy was an avid historian. She researched and extensively documented many historic sites around Ohio including the Harmar area of Marietta, the entire lock system of the Muskingum River, and all 88 Ohio Courthouses. In 1994, the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office presented Nancy with a Merit Award for her leadership in Washington County historic preservation.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Gottlieb (Richard) of Charleston, WV; two sons, Robert Hoy of Marietta, and David Hoy (Shelley) of Springboro, OH; seven grandchildren, Maggie Tardy, Jeb and Ellen Sears, Max Gottlieb, Amanda, Truman and Jude Hoy; and two great grandchildren, Ava and Claire Tardy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hoy, M. D., whom she married on June 8, 1957; her parents and her sister, Betty Dunn.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, with The Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker officiating. Private burial of her ashes will be in Mound Cemetery. Family will greet friends at a reception at the church, following services.
Donations may be directed, in her memory, to the Washington County Historical Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
