Neva Ruby Rees

November 2, 1921 — February 3, 2019

Neva Ruby Rees, 97, of Marietta, Ohio, died, Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Harmar Place in Marietta. She was born on November 2, 1921 in Fairmont, WV, to Noah Parks and Maude Dale Murphy Canfield.
Neva graduated from high school in Sherrodsville, Ohio, where she was a star basketball player. She then went to work in Akron, Ohio during WWII in the defense industry, as an aircraft mechanic. Her fianc served in WWII, causing them to be separated for five years. Upon his return, she married Harry James Rees on January 28, 1945. Neva was recognized many times over for her work as a "Rosie the Riveter" and gave numerous presentations over the years.
Always an active member of her church, she most recently spent her time wisely at The First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta. Neva was committed to gender equality and rights for the LGBTQ community. She believed that everyone deserved to be treated with respect. She was a 4-H advisor for many years, being involved in the OSU Extension office, helping people with homemaking skills. Neva loved baking and was well known for her cookies, which she provided to numerous groups including her grandson's scout troop and sports teams. She was a great story teller and her stories were published many times in various publications.
She is survived by her son, Ron Rees (Catherine) of Marietta; grandson, James Dylan Rees of Troy, NY; many nieces and nephews; and numerous "adopted" sons, daughters and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on February 21, 1975; and son, Gary Wayne Rees.
Abiding with her wishes, she has been cremated, and memorial services will be announced and held in the spring. Donations may be directed in her memory to The First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta, 232 Third Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750.
