Another veteran has died...Norbert Francis Kern, 66, of Churchtown, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born April 22, 1944 in Lowell to Joseph Andrew and Mary Emma Schilling Kern. He was a 1962 graduate of Waterford High School. Norbert served in the U.S. Army from July of 1965 to July of 1967, being stationed in Korea. He had worked at B.F. Goodrich and retired from RJF International. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, and was a past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He had been building coordinator for the Churchtown K of C Hall for twenty years. Norbert was also a member of the VFW Post #5108. He had coached Little League Baseball for several years in Churchtown. Norbert is survived by his wife, Marilyn Arnold Kern, they were married on May 11, 1968, also by five sons, Bradley (fianc, Becky Jenkins) of Churchtown, Russell (Chris) of Churchtown, Keith (Kirsten) of Drums, PA, Mitchell (Amber) of Akron and Nathan (Sarah) of Churchtown, a daughter, Kathy Rinard (Chauncey) of Newport, fourteen grandchildren, Derek, Jessica, Kirk, Alyssa and Alayna Kern, Allison, Ryan and Sadie Wentz, Taylor and Katelyn Rinard, Morgan, Parker, Hannah and Brady Kern, one sister, Edna Smith of Waterford and three brothers, Edward (Carol) of Marietta, Regis (Bernadette) of Marietta and Joseph (Joyce) of Oak Hill, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Virgil Reischman as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
