Opal Lillie Johnson, 84, of Marietta, died on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was on born on November 13, 1926 in Elizabeth, WV, to James William and Effie Myrtle Cline Lowe. Opal married James Russell Johnson on June 1, 1942. She was a past member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and farmer with her husband on the family farm. She loved crocheting, genealogy, quilting, and bingo at the O'Neill Senior Center. Opal is survived by three sons, Carl R. (Marilyn) of Marietta, Ralph J. (Virginia) of Cleveland and Ray H. (Penny) of Fleming, a daughter in law, Betty Johnson of McConnelsville, ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, who died on August 9, 2011, a son, Raymond C. Johnson, a granddaughter, Jessica Johnson, four sisters and seven brothers. Funeral services will be held at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and also for one hour on Wednesday, prior to services.
