Paul Gates Bertram, Jr., 75, of Marietta, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at his home. He was born January 30, 1937 in Marietta to Paul G. Bertram, Sr. and Goldie Opal Beardmore Bertram. He was a 1954 graduate of Marietta High School, attended Kenyon College, graduated from the Ohio State University in 1959 and the University of Cincinnati, College of Law, in 1962, where he was in the Law Review. He practiced law in Ohio, Federal Court in the Southern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Paul was well known for his love of Marietta, and of the business world, having been involved with the beginning of numerous new businesses, as well as the running of already established ones. These ventures included, but were not limited to, Bertram Law Office, Bertram Development, Eagle Realty, CBS, Dime Bank, Magnum Magnetics, MKB, HiVac, Metal Tech, New Weihl Olds, Double Tree, Mole Master, Two Rivers Realty and Quantum Leasing. He was or had been a member of Rotary, the Masonic Temple, Washington County Bar Association, the Washington County Fair Board and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. In 1994 Paul was named Business Person of the Year by the Marietta Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice Lee McCune Bertram; his mother of Marietta; two sons, Paul G. Bertram, III (Joyce) of Marietta and Seth Michael Bertram (Melanie) of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Christina, Adam, Eric, Garrett, Matthew, Sullivan and Murphy; his sister, Marilyn Sue Bertram of Dayton and nephews, Eric Ernst of Dayton and Todd Ernst of Boston, MA. There will be a memorial service held at the First Congregational Church on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. Donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 318 Front St., Marietta, OH 45750. There will be a reception at the Marietta Country Club to celebrate Paul's life immediately following the memorial service. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is assisting the family with Paul's arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Cawley, the Hospice group, and Lois' Ladies.
