Paul Richard "Dick" Greten, 79, of Marietta, Ohio, died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at his residence. He was born on December 15, 1936 in Zanesville, Ohio to Paul J. "PJ" and Virginia Ruth Monkhouse Greten. Dick was a 1954 graduate of Rosecrans High School in Zanesville and 1963 graduate of Marietta College with a B.S. in Business Administration, and also acquired credits toward his Master's Degree in Education Administration. He served our country in the Navy on the Destroyer, out of Newport, RI, from 1956-1958, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Dick was Superintendent of the Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and was a big part of the building of Ewing School and WASCO. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, the Knights of Columbus and of the Alpha Tau Omega-Beta Rho Chapter. He is survived by his sister, Suzanne Greten of Zanesville, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marlene Greten. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the Basilica. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Zanesville, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Basilica, 506 Fourth Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750.
