Ray Howard “Ray J” Johnson, a beloved resident of Fleming, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28th, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on July 28th, 1951, in Bartlett, Ohio, Ray was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man.
Ray graduated from Warren High School in 1969 and went on to build a successful career as an oil truck driver, eventually owning and operating his own oil hauling company. His dedication to his work and honesty was matched only by his commitment to his family and community.
Ray was an active member of the Masonic Lodge 293 in Bartlett, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. He was also a participant in the Washington County Ohio Horseman Council and was deeply involved in men's softball leagues. His enthusiasm for life and unwavering support for his family were evident in his constant presence at his grandchildren's events.
Ray is survived by his loving daughter, Carrie (Greg), and son, Michael. He was a proud grandfather to Daphanie (Isaac), Le'Cole (Levi), Tre, Shauna, and Xavier, and a great-grandfather to Ivan Ray. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Johnson and Ralph (Virginia) Johnson, sister-in-law Betty Johnson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Jim Johnson of Bartlett, Ohio, his beloved wife, Penny D. Johnson, his grandson, Sebastian, his brother, Raymond Johnson, and his mother and father-in-law, Dolpha "Doc" and Lillian Anderson.
A funeral service to honor Ray's life will be held at Tunnel United Methodist Church in Marietta, on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 4:00 pm followed by a reception. Visitation will take place at the church on the same day from 2 to 4 from 6 to 8 pm, ending with a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm.
