Ray E. Phillips, 80, of Marietta passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Ray was born December 26, 1928 at Constitution, Ohio to the late Malcolm and Hazel Robinson Phillips. Ray owned and operated the Marietta Bus Lines from 1963 to 1970. He later was employed by Wasco as transportation supervisor and bus driver. Ray retired from there in September of 1992. He was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church, where he was a charter member of the United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Dept., where he also served as an EMT, was a member of the O'Neill Senior Center, where he was an active volunteer, and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post #64. Ray was married to Wanda B. Keerps Phillips on October 24, 1948, they had been married over 60 years. She survives along with his sister, Doris Rowe, of Marietta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Lee and Dorothy Phillips and two brothers, Lewis and Fred Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Gilman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Diann O'Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Gravel Bank Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home and for one hour prior to his service at the church.
