Rebecca Sue Shawver

June 30, 1957 — July 13, 2013

Rebecca Sue Duty Shawver, 56, of Williamstown, WV, having exhausted the last measure of abundant strength and courage, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Columbus, at the Ohio State University Medical Center. Embracing a simple and modest way of living, contented in the person she was, not desiring more than was needed, she accepted the personal challenges life placed before her. Though enormous in difficulty, Becky engaged them with a capacity of spirit that far belied her outward stature. Those that had the opportunity to know her best, found in her a treasure of sweetness, as within the honeysuckle. Becky was born in Marietta, June 30, 1957, to the late Richard and Dorothy Carpenter Duty. She lived her entire life in Williamstown, having engaged there the common joys of youth - swimming, scouting, sports, cheerleading, rainbow girls, church membership, and school activities. After graduating from Williamstown High School in 1975, she married James C. Shawver on July 11, 1975. She brought forth into this world two extraordinary children, Nathaniel Shawver (Sarah) of Asheville, NC, and Rachel Pett (Matthew) of Winfield, WV. In addition to her children, she was blessed with three adorable grandchildren, Amanda Pett, Samuel Pett, and Dylan Shawver, whose presence were the sunshine in her life. Also surviving are her sister, Barbara Lewis (Ron) of Williamstown, and brothers, Richard Duty Jr. of Marietta, and Timothy Duty of Williamstown, along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with family members, Scott Morehead and Scott Shawver officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown. Donations may be made to Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Rd., Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43212-1440.
