Richard Clarence Arnold

October 22, 1937 — February 15, 2024

On Thursday, February 15, 2024 Richard C. Arnold, passed away suddenly at the age of 86.  He was born October 22, 1937, the son of Clarence and Hilda Schaad Arnold.

Richard graduated from Waterford High School in 1955. After graduation, he began his career at Interlake Steel and retired after 31 years of employment. Richard was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, served on the Parish Council, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He coached the very first basketball team at St. John School and also enjoyed coaching little league baseball.

In retirement, Richard continued to stay involved in the church and enjoyed gardening, watching his martin birds and took pride in his home. He loved spending time with his kids, grandchildren, great grandbabies and his constant companions, beagle dogs, Digger and Maggie Mae. He spent much of his spare time traveling to watch his grandchildren in their various sports and music activities. There was nothing that he enjoyed more than spending time with his wife, Shelba, enjoying the simple life together looking over the country side at their home.

He married the love of his life, Shelba J. Gerken Arnold on July 23, 1960 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Churchtown. Ohio. Richard is survived by Shelba, his wife of 63 years as well as his children, Lee Arnold (Diane Rauch), Kelly Ross (Bill), Timothy Arnold (Tamara), Christopher Arnold (Amy) and Matthew Arnold (Natalie); brothers Regis Arnold (Nancy), Edwin Arnold (Lois), Marilyn Kern (the late Norbert Kern) and David Arnold; grandchildren, Kristen Kenney (Mike), Lauren Wheeler (Perry), LeAnne Kelly (Matthew), Alexander Arnold (Brooke), Timothy Michael Arnold (Bella), Audrey Arnold (Andrew Nesselroad), Elizabeth Hamlin (Dominic), Isaac Arnold (Lily), Kathryn, Benjamin, Marian, Amelia, Grace, Emily, Jack, Simon and Sydney Arnold; great grandchildren, Liam Kenney, Tate and Marli Wheeler, Camden and Crew Kelly, Charlotte and Genevieve Arnold and Shane Hamlin; and many nieces and nephews.
