Rick Brown, 65, of Arrow Drive, Marietta, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, while participating in the Detroit, Michigan Marathon/Half Marathon. He was born September 12, 1944 in Marietta to Hubert and Maude Leasure Brown. He was a retired pipefitter, having worked through Local #168 for 30 years. He was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church. Rick was a member of the River City Runners and Walkers Club and enjoyed golfing. He was known as Coach Rick to many runners and walkers. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Cowdery Brown; his son, Steve Brown (Heather) of Sunbury; his daughter, Sarah Hess (Jason) of Marietta; five granddaughters, Allison, Taylor and Hannah Brown and Mackenzie and Ella Hess; two brothers, Buster Brown (Mary) and Don Brown (Susan) of Marietta; sister, Joan Thomas of Marietta; half sister, Dianne Minniefield (Johnny) of Cleveland and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Denny. Rick's funeral service will be at the Gilman United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, with the Rev. Diann O'Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. His visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to his services at the church on Friday.
