Richard Gene Irvine, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on February 11th, 1943, in Parkersburg, WV, Richard was a cherished resident of Waterford, OH, where he spent many fulfilling years surrounded by family and friends. Richard was the devoted husband of Helen Morrison Irvine, whom he met on a blind date. Their love story began with their marriage on July 9, 1966, and blossomed over the decades. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Randal Irvine (Michelle) and Stoney Irvine, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. Richard was also the proud grandfather of Hayley Irvine, who brought immense joy to his life. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, especially Nancy Kerns (Tom). Preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Richard Irvine and Maude Reip Irvine, and his siblings, Velma Smith, Rosalie Dowler, and Robert Irvine, Richard is now reunited with them in eternal peace. A proud alumnus of Warren High School, class of 1961, Richard dedicated his professional life to Marietta Plumbers & Pipefitters UA Local 168. As a welder/pipefitter, he contributed significantly to projects at Ohio Power and Shell, retiring in 2004 after a long and rewarding career. His commitment to his work was matched by his dedication to his country, having served in the Marines for four years during the Vietnam War. Richard was among the first 4,000 Marines to land in Vietnam, exemplifying courage and patriotism. Richard was an active member of the American Legion Post 389 and VFW Post 5108. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, as he participated in Southern Baptist Relief efforts and was a member of Beverly Baptist Church. He found joy in traveling, riding his Harley Davidson, RV'ing, reading, and tinkering around the farm, passions that enriched his life and those around him. As a 3rd generation Irvine, he took pride in his family's journey to America and their enduring legacy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024 at THE BARLOW CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Decatur Presbyterian Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
