Richard Norman Joy

August 13, 1935 — January 26, 2015

Richard Norman Joy, 79, of Marietta, passed peacefully at home on January 26, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born August 13, 1935 in Marietta, son of Clarence and Helen Courtney Joy. He was the proud owner of Joy Excavating and was a member of the Operating Engineers. Richard was a huge fan of The Ohio State football and NASCAR racing. He loved his dog, Dozer, and loved being surrounded by his family and friends. Richard is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Cole Joy, children, Robin Hanlon (Michael), Deanna Joy, Allison Elliott (John), Bryce Hiener (Bruce), and Joshua Malcolm (Jenny), grandchildren, Nicole, Braden, Ally and Claire, great granddaughter, Alora, brother, David (Sue) and sister, Donna Hutchinson (Leroy). He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Carol. Memorial services will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Don Archer officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Donations may be made to The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, P.O. Box 5, Marietta, OH 45750.
