Richard R. Stevens, 74, of Lowell, Ohio, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Specialty Hospital in Amherst, Ohio. He was born on September 24, 1938 to the late Lloyd and Mary Sidel Stevens. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Salem Liberty High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He married Martha Lang on October 20, 1962, with whom he just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Richard worked for the Ford Motor Company for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and the Lorain County Beagle Club. Richard coached baseball for many years and also was known as the original "American Picker", he was a collector of many things and he loved horses and mules. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife; five children, Pamela Shaw (Ray) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Tamela Griffith (Brian) of Vermilion, Ohio, Jackie Sliman (Ray) of Vermilion, Kim Pickett (Terry) of Elyria, Ohio, and Todd Stevens (Jennifer) of Lowell; 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Justen, Kayla, Ethan, Aaron, Alyssa, Cory, Callie, Nick, Dan, Adam, LeAnn, and Joe; brothers, Dave Stevens (Barb) of Beverly and John Stevens (Judy) of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Stevens; and Brother, Darrell Stevens. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with The Rev. Timothy Shannon celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors being observed. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.
